Elder Paul Blair – Prayer

posted in: Sermons | 0

What is prayer?  Prayer is many things.  First, it is a declaration that you are in subjection to God.  Just like a child asks his father for permission to do anything, or to ask for help, or to ask for something he needs, or wants.  The fact that he can’t get it without his father granting it declares that he is subject to him.  It is the father’s will or purpose that determines whether he grants the thing petitioned for or not.  He is not obligated to give the thing asked for just because he was asked.

Prayer has many forms and subjects.  It is enquiring, consulting, requesting, begging, meditating, and giving thanks.  Prayer is communion with God.  Our approach to God must be with the attitude of subjection, humbleness, impotence, and weakness.  Sometimes God grants our requests as we ask, and sometimes the answer is “No”.  Sometimes the answer is given in ways that we could not have imagined.  In all cases, our attitude should be with a quiet reservation to His will.
