The “Beattitudes” are the first subjects of Jesus’ sermon in the mount and are usually presented as “attitudes that we ought to display”. While I agree with that statement, Jesus is not presenting them from the standpoint that we will be blessed when we display them. On the contrary, Jesus is stating the fact that: the poor in spirit, the meek, the merciful, the mourning, etc. ARE BLESSED. Jesus is describing the children of the Kingdom, not telling people to “Be these in order to be in the Kingdom”.
